The Liberian Swedish Association Election Commissioner, LSAEC, released a comprehensive document containing rules and guidelines for LSA's upcoming general election scheduled for Saturday, July 22, 2023. The document was released on Sunday, May 14, through LSA's various social media platforms (WhatsApp and Facebook page). According to the requirement, the document was created following Chapter XVI of LSA's constitution.
The rules and guidelines stipulate that the election will be a hybrid of in-person voting and phone/SMS voting. The physical voting will take place at a polling center in Stockholm at Hägerstensåsens BP (football field), Personnevägen 35, Hägersten. Additionally, phone voting is planned on the same day for eligible voters who may not be able to participate in the physical voting due to circumstances beyond their control {such as being outside the country, illness, etc.}. To be eligible, voters must submit their full name and nationally registered phone number (subject to verification) before the day of the election.
Furthermore, voting is open to all registered LSA members. However, all members must adhere to the rules and guidelines set forth by LSAEC to be eligible to vote, and those wishing to run for office must submit their candidacy application. All candidates must meet the criteria outlined in the document, and any violation of the rules may result in disqualification.
Additionally, aspiring candidates and voters are encouraged to settle all financial and other obligations owed to LSA. As such, they must be dues-paying members for the past two years and must regularly attend LSA's monthly meetings. The eligible positions for the upcoming election are president, vice president, secretary-general, assistant secretary-general, telephone secretary, treasurer, and chaplain.
Furthermore, the schedule and activities for the election are as follows:
Candidate registration period: May 13 - June 3, 2023.
